10 Year-old Murder Case Concludes in Chonburi
Wonder how he got away with it for so long...
When: November 28th, 2020
Where:Tha Luang subdistrict, Phichit district, Phichit province (location of the murder)
Perpetrators: Mr. Kong, 49 years
Victims: Mr. Sharp, age unknown
What: The decade-old murder case of a drug smuggler has finally closed. Police in Chonburi arrested Mr. Kong for the stabbing and murder of Mr. Sharp in a Phichit rice paddy ten years ago. The pair were involved with a small syndicate of drug smugglers. Mr. Kong escaped the murder scene and has been living in Chonburi the past decade. Now he'll be laying his head on the cold hard floor of a prison cell.
My take: It took ten years for police to nab Mr. Kong after he escaped to Chonburi. According to the news report, authorities knew where he'd escaped to. It makes me wonder - why did they arrest him now? Did somebody forget to grease the wheels?
60 Kilos of Ice Seized at Chiang Rai Army Checkpoint
All the risk for .006% of the reward.
When: November 28th, 2020
Where: Mae Chan subdistrict, Mae Chan district, Chiang Rai province
Perpetrators: Mr. Piyaphong Disthabamrung, 36; Ms. Napaporn Lumphong, 20
Victims: Yaba heads
What: The suspicions of an observant officer at the army checkpoint in Mae Chan, Chiang Rai led to the seizure of 60 kilos of ice destined for Bangkok. The drugs have an estimated black market value of 40 million baht.
The two smugglers, Mr. Disthabamrung and Ms. Lumphong, were paid 250,000 baht to transport the meth from Mae Sai to Bangkok. Thai police and army were involved with the seizure. Sadly, the couple were arrested with their 5 year old son in the truck.
200,000 Yaba Tabs Seized in Nong Khai
10,000 baht to risk life in prison? That's desperation, or stupidity.
When: November 28th, 2020
Where:Phon Phisai district, Nong Khai province
Perpetrators: Mr. Kham Mee Phamjit, 36, Lao national
Victims: Yaba heads
What: Thai police were tipped off on a drug delivery that led to the seizure of 200,000 yaba tabs and the arrest of a Lao national. The drug mule, Mr. Phamjit, was paid 10,000 baht by a Lao syndicate to smuggle the yaba from Laos to Thailand. The police busted him on a sugar-cane farm where they found the meth in a fertilizer bag, a favorite stash spot with smugglers.
My take: The Lao wages for a drug mule are really low considering the risk involved in smuggling scheduled substances. A potential 10,000 baht payday has now ended in a long jail sentence of the Lao national.
